Passage: Read Numbers 8-11.

The nation begins ideally. The cloud leads by day and the fire at night are reminders of the continual presence of the Lord among his people. The trumpets sound and the people begin to move in orderly fashion. There should be joy, excitement and anticipation. Instead it did not take long for complaints to emerge. God judged by plagues and punishment. If we are going to dwell in the presence of a holy God, we must adjust our lives accordingly. 11:24-25 "So Moses went out and told the people the words of the Lord. And he gathered seventy men of the elders of the people and placed them around the tent. Then the Lord came down in the cloud and spoke to him and took some of the Spirit that was on him and put it on the seventy elders. And as soon as the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied."
