Passage: Read Proverbs 5-8.

In these chapters, two women call. One is the adulteress inviting to sexual sin. The other is wisdom inviting to gain understanding and do what is right. The adulteress makes her case in 7:18-20. "Come let us take our fill of love till morning; let us delight ourselves with love. For my husband is not home; he has gone on a long journey; he took a bag of money with him; at full moon he will come home." The basis of the appeal of temptation is that we will not be caught. The answer is in 5:21. "For a man's ways are before the eyes of the Lord and he ponders all his paths." Wisdom is portrayed as a woman's invitation as well. 8:1 "Does not wisdom call? Does not understanding raise her voice?" V10-11 "Take my instruction instead of silver and knowledge rather than choice gold, for wisdom is better and jewels and all that you may desire cannot compare with her." Which voice will we listen to today, the voice of temptation or the voice of wisdom? "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom."
